Tips & Trends | Best End of Summer Street Style

Fashion inspiration doesn’t have to stop at the runway. It can be found in and around the streets of your very own city if you just look around! Sometimes passerby’s can have some of the best fashion, especially through putting their own unique twist on popular trends. They deserve to be documented, hence the idea of “summer street style”! I’ve gathered some of the best of the best in the street style game, so let’s see which outfits made the cut.

California Cool

Calling all bae’s! This guy’s got that quintessential California-cool look down pact. From the tattoos to the beaten up vans, to the slim-legged cuffed jean, he totally looks like he’s ready to long board down the boardwalk. This is the perfect ‘jeans and tee’ look, but the way he’s made this classic look his own is what gives it its unique vibe. The glasses and the quirky patterned socks are a nice touch too!

Muted Hues

If I had to describe this look in a couple of words it would be: muted, clean and Nordic. The colour scheme of this entire outfit encompasses the muted trend that has been surfacing throughout this season. It also incorporates some other trendier elements found in the ripped jeans, trench coat and wide-brimmed fedora. Because of the outfit’s colour scheme, it appears very streamlined and clean, even down to the girl’s white-blonde hair colour! And finally, this outfit gives me major Nordic vibes because of the two elements mentioned above, but also because of its minimalist approach – a characteristic that’s heavily influenced the Nordic aesthetic.

Desert Song

I’m a huge fan of anything Southwestern-inspired, so this look reflects heavily on my personal style. Nothing says summer like a white pair of jeans; they’re crisp, fresh and new and give any outfit some summer appeal. The printed poncho-style top is light and flowy for those hot summer days. She’s topped it off with some accessories: a wide brimmed hat with a printed band and a textile patterned bag.

Denim Whimsy

This outfit is all about comfort. The dungarees are oversized and worn in, providing the ultimate comfort. The top is loose and flowy as well, and the lace-up gladiators give it that bohemian touch. This would be a perfect outfit to sport at a music festival or any event that’s happening around the city because of its comfort.

Levitation

Levitation Festival or as its sometimes known, Austin Pysch Fest, saw tons of awesome outfits that coincided with the festival’s psychedelic music line-up. Many of the festival goers saw 60’s and 70’s patterns and fits as the way to go. This guy’s tight-fitting skinnies and an army surplus jacket is a dead ringer for the 60’s.

Commuter Girl

This look proves that you can find fashion inspiration, even in the most unexpected of places… like on your commute to and from work. This stylish commuter’s look has one of my favourite elements in it – fringe! This beautiful jacket provides a modern twist because it’s powder blue. This gives the jacket a more summery look and doesn’t make it appear too heavy. She topped it off with a t-shirt from Camp Collection, which is one of my favourite places to look for vintage 70’s inspired camp tee’s. You can also take a look around at the many consignment or vintage shops around Toronto and will probably come across some similarly inspired ringer tees. A big pair of cat-eye sunnies and a pointed toe bootie pull together the outfit.

The best way to give an outfit its own individualistic flare, setting you apart from the masses on the streets is through finding unique pieces. The best places to shop for these kinds of items are thrift or vintage stores, consignment shops, or even flea markets. Be sure to check out our very own shop, Designer Swap. We’re a Canadian designer consignment store that offers authentic and pre-loved items that’ll be sure to help add a little something, something to your outfit.
