As a busy mom of two with a full time job, my everyday style includes pieces that are easy to wear, comfortable, versatile and affordable. Whether I’m at the office, running errands, shuffling the kids around between activities and birthday parties or just hanging out with my family on the weekends, I’ve learned that you can look and feel great flaunting the style trends you love in a way that works for my every day. And yes, moms can be comfortable and stylish – all at the same time! Who knew!

Here are a few of my favourite trends that I think can work for any mom on the go:
Fashion Tip #1: Jeans
The most versatile and comfortable closet staple is a pair of great jeans. There are tons of styles out there to flatter every shape and size. The trend I absolutely love right now in denim are boyfriend jeans, which are super easy to dress up or down – they literally go with everything. I opt for this style with a slimmer leg, versus the baggier version (since I’m petite and the slimmer leg adds a sexier vibe). On the weekends when I’m on the go with my kids, I love these jeans with a simple, white tee and my Converse runners or ballet flats. For a girls’ night out or date night with my hubby, I swap out the runners and t-shirt for a sexy, strappy heel, flattering tank and some accessories. A structured blazer also adds some flair for those cool summer nights.

Fashion Tip #2: Maxi Dresses
Doesn’t work for my 9-5 but maxi dresses are a must have staple for the summer. With so many different styles in a variety of colours and patterns, it won’t be hard to find one that you’ll be wearing all the time this summer. I love cotton jersey material maxi dresses because it’s light weight, super comfortable, and easy to move around in. Maxi dresses can be worn day or night, dressy or casual – you can’t go wrong with having one (or two or three!) in your wardrobe.
Fashion Tip #3: Accessories
Chunky, sparkly statement necklaces, bold or simple and delicate bracelets, or a patterned, colourful scarf are a great ways to dress up any outfit. A standout necklace paired with a sheath dress or pencil skirt and blouse are super easy add-ons that are work appropriate. And guess what? That same necklace can dress up a simple tee and boyfriend jeans for a fun night out.
Fashion Tip #4: Pencil Skirts
I must admit when I find something I like I stick with it and buy it multiple colours. And this is true for pencil skirts. Neutrals like black, gray and navy are essential work pieces that are easy to mix and match with my favourite silky tops or fitted button down dress shirts for the office. With the warmer months approaching, a pencil skirt in bright bold colours, white or floral prints add a fresh take on this classic. Pencil skirts work for both my weekday and weekend style – it never gets old.
Fashion Tip #5: Statement Sandals
Bold pops of colours, sparkly embellishments, neutrals or animal print take this summer staple up a notch. Flat sandals are a must have for the summer because they are just super comfortable and can be worn with anything. With so many different styles, statement sandals are just one more way to add a fun, funky or sexy look to any outfit, day or night.
With so many trends out there, it’s all about adding your own personal flair to any look and making it your own. There are no hard and fast rules – wear what you love and what makes you feel comfortable in a way that suits your everyday life. But just remember, as a busy mom you don’t have to give up comfort to be stylish or break the bank doing it. Happy shopping and happy styling!
