Beauty Tips & Trends | How to Make Lipstick Last

I just love when my lipstick doesn’t last! …Said no ever. You didn’t just find your perfect pinky brown nude shade just for it to come off. Especially after a slice of pizza, or bowl of pasta, or cone of ice cream, ammiright? Or when you’re on a dinner date and you become dreadfully self aware of the disappearing act your magical lipstick is about to pull off.

Over the past year, liquid lippies have climbed the consumer ladder because of its convenience. One swipe for a full opacity and 8hr+ wear time? It’s an advertiser’s and lip addict’s dream. But sometimes, a kickass formula just doesn’t cut it. One meal later and you’ll see the inner rim of your lips begin to fade, or worse, the dreaded butthole lip (#firstworldproblems). Here are some preventative measures to ensure flawless wear.

Prep

Regardless of a matte or lustre finish, exfoliate your lips with a scrub or dry toothbrush to get rid of flakes and create a smooth canvas.  You can DIY your own scrub with some sugar, coconut, and essential oils.

Prime

They have lip primers on the market, but if you ask me, they’re totally unnecessary. Put on some chapstick, any primer (face, eye etc) and/or a thin layer of foundation and line your lips with lipliner. Even when your top layer of lipstick begins to fade, the liner with stay put and keep some color on your lips, without creating that weird brim (you all know what I’m talking about).

Pout

Start off by applying thin layers of lipstick and blotting with a tissue in between, until you’ve reached your desired opacity. Then seal off color by dusting on a light coating of translucent powder, so there isn’t any awkward slipping and sliding.

Makeup Forever Lip-Liner in 3C

A personal favourite, this shade is MMLB (my lips but better), lasts forever and the creamy formula applies smoothly without accentuating dry patches.

Nars Lip Pencils

I was skeptical of these, but they live up to all its claims. It’s a jumbo lip-liner, and the matte formula is surprisingly moisturizing.
