Beauty Tips & Trends | Budge Proof Makeup For Summer

Share via:

Anh Pham

The few short months of summer have most of us taking advantage of all the sunny days we’re given. However, our cold weather makeup routine won’t last in the heat. Whether you’re at the beach, having a picnic, or sitting on a patio enjoying a fruity cocktail – don’t let your face be a distraction! After a layer of SPF, follow these tips for a budge proof make up look this summer.

BASE

Priming is important for a smooth and flawless look, but it also helps your makeup last longer. If you find your eye shadows don’t stay put, try an eye shadow primer. Almost every brand makes one, so you are bound to find one that works for you. Face primers often have a targeted purpose – to help combat dark circles, redness, oil, etc. The Smashbox Photo Finish Primer line is perfectly tailored for any kind of skin.

LESS IS MORE

The trick to long-lasting makeup is actually not packing on the powder. It may hold back the oils and sweat for a while, but eventually the oils will start to break down your foundation. Try using only a thin layer of a BB cream or a tinted moisturizer, and spot concealing where necessary. A highly pigmented concealer like the Cover FX Cream Concealer will assist in minimizing the amount of product on your face.

CREAMS OVER POWDERS

When it comes to longevity, creams often have more staying power than powders do. If you know you will be out in the heat, try using a long-lasting cream eye shadow like Make Up Forever Aqua Cream. Blend them out with a synthetic, fluffy brush for a seamless look. This technique applies to cream blushes, too.

TINTS AND STAINS

These should be your go-to for cheek and lip colour. Some lip products, such as the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain, are meant to stain the lips, leaving colour long after the initial glossy finish has worn off. ¬¬You won’t have to reapply as often – or, since there’s already colour on your lips, you can swap it with a hydrating SPF lip balm for shine, moisture and protection.

WATERPROOF EVERYTHING

This one is self-explanatory. If there is an option for waterproof, get it! But remember to use an oil-based makeup remover when you go to take it off so you don’t tug at the delicate skin on your eyes. Extra Virgin Olive Oil works in a pinch, too (TIP: apply some to your eyelashes before bed to help them grow!).

SET & SPRAY

Before setting your face, blot it with an oil-absorbing sheet. This will help remove excess oils so you can set with a light powder. As a final touch, setting sprays help to blend your makeup together, create a natural finish, and extend its performance. Urban Decay makes great setting sprays for different types of skin, or the L’Oreal Paris Infallible Pro-Spray & Set Makeup Extender Setting Spray is a wallet-friendly option.
