Tips & Trends | Minimalist Outfits

A quick scroll through Pinterest and it’s clear to see that the minimalist aesthetic has not only been taking over the home front with its white, clean and completely clutter-free interiors, but also trickling into the fashion world as well. Its “less is more” mentality oftentimes creates a juxtaposing pull within people who are both intrigued and frightened about the possibility of living small and having the wardrobe to match. So here are some tips on how to put together some minimalist outfits!

Less Is More

As previously mentioned, “less is more” is the motto that this trend goes by, but can specifically be applied to two avenues of minimalist dressing: the aesthetic and the amount. Firstly, when it comes to the aesthetics of this style, “less is more” means that things are no fuss – so stick to clean cuts by choosing clothing that’s streamlined and simple. Also, keep jewelry minimal; dainty necklaces with smaller charm pendants and rings that have thin bands will work just fine, as will solid coloured, structured bags, when thinking about accessories.

In addition to adhering to the style’s aesthetic, “less is more” can apply to the amount of clothes that you have in your wardrobe. The minimalist fashion trend is all about keeping things simple and minimal, so ‘downgrade’ your wardrobe, stripping it to the bare necessities, and splurging on pieces that are high quality that you can mix and match with just about everything else in your wardrobe.

Clean Colour Palette

Sticking to a neutral colour palette of whites, blacks, greys, muted pastels and classic denim washes when trying to create some minimalist outfits are key. These tones and colours help make your minimalist outfits look clean and cohesive, making for pairing things within your wardrobe a breeze! Straying away from loud, large prints and eye catching graphics is also another important aspect to creating the perfect minimalist outfit. The focus should be on the mixing of different tones and textures, creating a cohesive look and playing with the outfit’s silhouettes.

Tailoring

Tailoring is an important aspect to capturing the minimalistic aesthetic and dressing for any look you’re going for! Minimalist tailoring leans more toward classic and clean cuts as opposed to frayed and distressed hems, because it keeps the garment looking simple. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that it has to be boring, as minimalist tailoring also means that you can play with different shapes, silhouettes and cuts like asymmetrical and maxi hemlines.
