Tips & Trends | Mood Board: Images Inspiring Fashion

Share via:

Anh Pham

All great fashion projects begin with a brainstorming session that usually involves a mood board. A mood board is a board that includes a set of images in which are serving as inspiration for the subject right now. Thus, as no surprise, images most often inspire fashion, and here are our top picks.

Desert Landscapes

Desert themed things have been popping up everywhere as of late, from blatant cacti prints to desert-esque colour schemes. Brands such as Wildfox Couture have applied a quirky spin, incorporating this desert landscape trend into their apparel, whilst pieces like this from Spell and the Gypsy Collective take on a more subtle approach.

Leafy Greens

Leafy greens have been a trend that first began its resurgence in the world of home décor, via leaf print on everything, and then slowly trickled into the world of fashion. Showcasing your love for leafy greens is definitely a statement piece but what better way to make a statement than in the summer?! If you’re on the hunt for some leafy options, try this lovely jumpsuit from designer Osklen or these (one and two) fun button-ups from American Eagle for men.

Psychedelic Prints

How could we forget a mention of arguably the biggest trend in fashion right now – the 70s! Psychedelic prints took over the scene and were completely adopted (again) onto dresses, blouses and even bottoms. If you’re looking to add a psychedelic twist to your look this summer check out this flared number from American Eagle or this dress from Forever 21.

Crochet Blankets

The crochet trend popped itself into the festival scene this year quite nicely, but it took on a whole new meaning when patterns that were usually seen on blankets knitted by your grandparents began to appear as actual clothing items. We saw this blanket trend first pop up on the catwalk ages ago by Saint Laurent, but since then it’s hit a ton of fast fashion retailers. H&M was one of the first to go on full-fledged blanket mode with this now iconic dress from the Coachella Collection. The dress is perfect for festival season. But if you’re looking for something that hasn’t really made its rounds on the blogosphere, look no further than to the Australian babes at Spell and the Gypsy. They created this amazing two piece set that is absolutely gorgeous.
