Tips & Trends | The Man Braid Trend

Share via:

Let me just point out the elephant in the room here before I begin. Some may agree to disagree that the man braid may or may not become a trend over the next coming weeks. The trend started with the man bun and with a bit of creativity, the man braid was later invented. It grew in popularity thanks to social media, with individuals posting their different braids on instagram.  Now that spring is back, we are expecting the man braid trend to be in full throttle.

I am personally neither a big fan of it nor against it. It just takes a bit of time to take in (just like any new trend). Instead of creating a debate as to what is in style and what is not, I wanted to help take your man braid to the next level and give you new braid ideas for the spring. Check them out!

The Dutch Braid

This is my favourite man braid. The braid does not take you too far out of your comfort zone, and gives you a bit of an edge. Instead of writing out the process, I found a few videos on Youtube with the experts making their braid. Click on the images to see the video!

Now, I am going to go to the opposite end of the spectrum to show you a braid that took typical corn rows and brought it to the next level. This man braid unfortunately requires assistance from a salon….or somebody who has the patience to braid it for you. It is a similar process to the Dutch braid but requires more time.

The French Braid

Not sure why but I was surprised to find this braid growing in popularity for men. It is not one of the easiest braids (I have never accomplished completing the French braid properly). However, check it out and see if you can rock this style!

The Classic Man Braid

This is the man braid that you see pop up everywhere in social media. It is one of the more popular ones and easy to complete.

Most of these videos are not done professionally and are from individuals experimenting on new styles. It has not hit the fashion world as of yet but I would not be surprised to see these styles in GQ magazine within the next few months.

I would not suggest it as a style for work, but it is definitely a practical method to keep your hair out of your face during the hot summer days. If you are a fan of the man bun, try something different and see if this could be another alternative for you!
