Tips & Trends | The Monochrome Look

Wearing a single colour from head to toe is a look many people tend to shy away from, unless that colour happens to be “safe” option, like black or white. For most, it’s the fear of looking too matchy or too closely resembling a Crayola crayon. However, when done right, monochromatic outfits can actually look very put together and chic. Here are 4 easy tips for rocking a monochrome outfit.

Stay Mute

If you’re feeling a bit anxious about possibly looking like a Smurf while wearing all blue, stick to lighter, more subtle shades. They’re much more neutral while still helping you achieve your one tone look. This baby blue Diane Von Furstenberg dress from Designer Swap would be a great starting piece for a monochrome look.

Shades of Cool

Don’t think that wearing one colour means just one singular shade of it. Wearing similar shades of the same hue look just as stylish without having to take the plunge of committing to strictly one shade. It can also add a bit more interest to an otherwise homogeneous outfit.

K.I.S.S. (Keep It Super Simple)

Sticking to simple, minimalistic pieces are the key to success when going monochromatic. Too many items or pieces with very intricate detailing can sometimes be too much and look costume-like when wearing mostly one colour. Keeping it simple while guarantee your outfit looks chic and bold on its own, instead of relying purely on unnecessary extra details. A jumpsuit is a great option for a simple outfit, check out Boohoo for some cute options.

Pop Around

With all that being said, don’t be afraid to add a pop of a different colour. An accessory in a different hue, whether it be a bright colour, a neutral or a metallic, can help to break up the outfit a bit or to add a focal point. Just make sure whichever piece you choose isn’t too obvious or distracting to keep the integrity of your monochrome look in place.
