With the temperatures fluctuating, slipping in and out of the negatives, it’s obvious, whether we like it or not, that winter is coming. And as a result, we’ll have to bundle up in hats, scarves, and mitts to stop from freezing our little buns off. But just because we’ll be wrapped and bundled in miles of fabric doesn’t mean we can’t still accessorize in style! Spruce up your winter wardrobe with some of these winter fashion accessories.

Texting Gloves

The necessity to like the newest Instagram picture, answer an email or snap a picture for your Snapchat story doesn’t stop throughout the winter months. All of this can be rather impossible when you’re wearing mitts, and who wants to risk frostbite? Designers and retailers have caught on, realizing that with everyone’s phones glued to their hands, the next logical step would be to create a texting glove. These are the work of sheer genius. The fingertip part of the glove is touch screen sensitive, making scrolling, liking and typing – a breeze. They come in a series of different colours and patterns, to suit everyone’s tastes and sensibilities and can be found at places like American Eagle and Urban Outfitters.

Cute Beanies

It’s no myth that we lose heat fastest from your head. Therefore, sport a cute beanie this season. These things come in just about any sort of colour, pattern or material and go from being structured to slouchy to having a little bobble at the top, so it’ll be super easy to find one that suits your aesthetic. They’re also the finishing touch to just about any outfit and definitely help on those “I was too lazy to style my hair” days, making you look cute and cozy. So definitely have one (or a few) on hand this winter – your head will thank you.

Blanket Scarves

As mentioned in previous blog posts (here and here), blanket scarves are all the rage, and are our number one must-have winter fashion accessory this season. They are multi-functional and sensationally warm. Because of its typically huge dimensions, you can wrap this around a couple of times, multiplying your warmth factor. You can also throw it over your head as a makeshift hood on those days when the winter winds are bitter to the bone.

Socks

Next to keeping your head warm, keeping your toes nice and toasty is another main priority during the winter months. Socks are an accessory that are oftentimes overlooked or completely dismissed when co-ordinating an outfit. However, they’re one that should definitely be paid attention to. Thigh-high or over-the-knee socks are great for pairing with skirts and dresses because they’re a little bit thicker than just normal semi-opaque tights. You can stay warm while adding visual interest to your outfit. American Apparel and Urban Outfitters do tons of these types of socks in any colour and pattern you could imagine. But if you’d like to stick to the more conventional sock, then wooly boot socks are for you (wool is also a great insulator). Wear these with your favourite pair of ankle or combat boots and have them peeking out from the top.

Fleece Lined Tights

With temperatures sometimes plunging into the negative 40’s, it can be difficult to justify wearing a dress or skirt without shuddering in horror, thinking how cold your legs will be. You can find fleece-lined tights at many retailers (even Costco!!). You’ll have to sacrifice the usual sheer tights, but will be thanking us when you try these for yourself. These are the ultimate lifesaver for those upcoming arctic-like days and nights with holiday events around the corner with dressing up being a must.
