There’s nothing better than finding a more affordable option when shopping around for a designer purse. Many people search for bargains on designer purses by buying them online or finding them at consignment shops. But how can you tell if it’s actually real? Here are a few things to look out for to ensure that you get the real deal.

  1. Wax casing hand is often applied to designer handbags to cover the edges. A sloppy paint job around the trim can give you a warning signal that it’s a fake.
  1. If a handbag has loose, translucent plastic covering the handles, it is most likely counterfeit.

5

  1. Pay close attention to zippers and clasps, which should open and close without trouble.
  1. The hardware on a designer purse should have the same colour and finish.
  1. Take a close look at the stitching and seams of the designer bag. If the seams are glued or the stitching is sloppy, it is most likely a fake. Also check to see if the stitching is pressed too tight into the material, which can give it a cheaper look.

  1. If you’re truly unsure if it’s a designer bag, smell it. Leather items smell predominantly of leather. Therefore, if you smell glue, rubber or chemicals, it is probably not real.
  1. Just because a handbag has an authenticity card doesn’t mean it’s authentic. Louis Vuitton and Hermes bags actually do not come with authenticity cards, but counterfeiters create them as a way to fool customers.

  1. Many designer bags have identification stamps on the inside. For example, Louis Vuitton’s identification stamp includes letters that represent where the bag was made, and numbers that represent when it was made.If the code inside a Louis Vuitton purse was “SD1018” the second and fourth numbers represent the year (2008), and the first and third number represent the week in that year (11).
