Lifestyle | Where to Go & What to Wear: Liberty Village

As we all know, Torontonians take an extra amount of pride in where we lay our heads at night. The neighbourhood to the Toronto native is not only where we sneak away for Sunday morning yoga, or where we stuff our faces with the best local burger. It’s not even only where we meet our best friends for monthly cocktails – neighbourhoods are home to us and we take that very seriously.

The best part about Toronto neighbourhoods is that each and every area has its own perks, whether that be restaurants, spin studios or even pet groomers; they all have their own special gems.

Over on the west side, you can find a growing community that is home to over 20,000 locals and a workspace for nearly 5,000 Torontonians. Liberty Village has evolved into one of the trendiest neighbourhoods for young professionals and a hotspot of some super good eats we definitely recommend making a trip for!

Where to Go:

Liberty Commons at Big Rock Brewery

42 Liberty St, Toronto

Excite your taste buds and indulge in savoury goodness at yet another Oliver and Bonacini gem. Liberty Commons is a more recent addition to LV and we have no clue how we lived without it previously. Snack on some delicious shareable dishes like jalapeño pierogis or dusted wings, but make sure to save room for the sticky toffee pudding – we promise; you won’t regret it!

What to Wear:

A classic, yet casual hangout with distressed wood and exposed wire interior, it’s definitely the perfect place to rock a pair of vintage Levis. Though it’s not super fancy, a nice blouse and bold shoes are the perfect combination for this Liberty Village hotspot.

Where to Go:

Locus 144

171 East Liberty St. Unit 144, Toronto

If you’re in the mood for a strong cocktail and some yummy apps, Locus 144 is your spot. A neighbourhood favourite since 2010, it’s the best place to sip on a fruity Whisky Tango Foxtrot cocktail, indulge in some wood oven pizza, and enjoy your Friday night at this LV oldie.

What to Wear:

A bit of a classier joint, where you can sit, relax and get lost in their high ceilings and wall full of glistening mirrors. A t-shirt/skirt combo is recommended at a place like Locus 144 – it’s classy and elegant, with a pinch of casual and cute. Keep in mind, sometimes Toronto nights can be a tad chilly, so a light leather jacket and summer booties are perfect in that case.

Where to Go:

School

70 Fraser Ave, Toronto

If there is anything Torontonians take more seriously than neighbourhoods, its brunch, and boy oh boy, Liberty Village is the place to be on a Sunday morning. If you spend your day in line to taste the savoury sweetness of School, there is no possible way you’ll regret the hour wait. Just the sight alone of the Black n’ Blue Flapjacks are enough to make your mouth water. Get there early, grab a mimosa and wait to have your mind blown by the taste of breakfast food.

What to Wear:

Considering you might have to wait at least an hour to take a seat, comfy shoes are recommended. A cute pair of sneakers and a comfy dress to wait around in is the ideal outfit you’d want to spend a Sunday in (especially if you spent your Saturday night out – comfort is key). Throw on a denim jacket in case it’s a bit cold, and tie it around your waist if you get too hot – that’s always a trendy look!
