2020 Fashion Trends We’re Excited to Wear

The beginning of a new decade ushers in new fashion trends. We’ve rounded up incoming styles we can’t wear to wear this year!

Marigold Everything

This golden hue is a toss-up between mustard and yellow that you’ll be sure to see everyone wearing once spring hits. It looks stunning on a bright dress, a bold blouse, and—for a subtle touch—in a padded headband.

70s Inspired Pieces

Psychedelic prints and flared pants return this decade. Single button blazers, suits with long, lean silhouettes, and skinny flares pay homage to the free-spirited seventies women.

Expect to see more corduroy, mustard, and burnt orange—colours which slowly waded in at the end of the last decade, and, like it or not, bellbottom pants could be the “it” pant of 2020.

Spots Return

Whether you deviate from the norm in big, bold spots or prefer feminine, miniscule spots, polka dots are back in a big way. This girly pattern adds feminine flair to dresses and blouses, mixes well with colours and makes for a stand out pattern.

White polka dots look great against a sand-coloured sundresses, while black polka dotted stockings add subtle detail underneath a skirt. Balmain and Balenciaga were just two designers spotted sporting this pattern on the runway.

Linear Lines Are Here to Stay

Polka dots aren’t the only pattern you can expect to see. Even though stripes came onto the scene last year, both the vertical and horizontal variety will stick around for 2020.

Vertical stripes, in particular, flatter everybody and photograph well—great for posting new pictures to the ‘Gram.

Puffy Sleeves Aren’t Just for Pirates

Hopeless romantics rejoice! Caroline Herrera and Simone Rocha models strutted down runways in voluminous dramatic sleeves, signaling oversized arms as an incoming fashion trend.

Take this look off the runway in floral tops, updated black dresses, and high collared long-sleeves. Shirts and dresses move from structured to whimsical in these pronounced garments.

Shorts Are the New Pants

The SS 2020 season proved skirts are no longer the only alternative to pants. Even pant suits were upgraded, as the traditional skirt was replaced with a Bermuda short.

Chanel and Givenchy models led the way in short shorts and the Bermuda style, but if neither of those are your type, you can rest assured knowing biker shorts will continue to remain trendy this year.

Loafers Remain a Fashionable Footwear Choice

This functionally fashionable footwear had a major comeback in 2019, and it will continue to play favourite in 2020. No longer your grandma’s shoe, loafers come in new forms: sleek fits, chunky soles, wild snakeskin prints.

Just think how these Gucci leather loafers, with their slightly round toe and silver hardware, make traditional black loafers a chic alternative to heels. You can get designer shoes for less and hop on board with the latest trends at Designer Swap.
