Adrienne Naval (Beyond the Exterior), a young blogger based in Toronto, loves all things fashion, beauty, travel and lifestyle. The ladies at Designer Swap loved her affordable style and fun personality, so we were ecstatic to have the opportunity to ask her a few questions. Check out her sources of inspiration, thoughts on blogging, and find out her favourite bloggers to follow!

1. What or who inspired you to start blogging?

Lookbook.nu and Chictopia were the reason I wanted to started blogging! I loved scrolling through those websites getting fashion inspiration and by 2012, I wanted to have my own blog.

2. What do you blog about?

I primarily blog about fashion but I hope to start expanding more into beauty, lifestyle and photography.

3. What is the most difficult part about blogging?

At the moment, the most difficult part is managing school and/or work! Even though blogging isn’t a source of income, I like to stay consistent when it comes to posting so it gets difficult writing articles or having the time to take photos around midterms/finals.

4. How has your blog impacted your life now?

Honestly, having my blog has literally changed so many things in my life in such a positive way. I’ve made new friends with similar interests and constantly feel motivated and inspired to create new content. Having the opportunities to interact with so many people around the world via social media or even at events has been an incredible experience.

5. What inspires you throughout your blogging experience/career?

I can be inspired by anything when it comes to creating content. I’ve been inspired by the history of fashion, architecture, editorials and campaigns and so much more! What inspires me to continue with blogging is how it makes me want to constantly improve myself; whether that be photography or writing or even wanting to learn something new like applying makeup.

6. What is the most important feature of a successful blog?

BE CONSISTENT AND GENUINE! I’ve been extremely fortunate to be given the opportunities the past year and half I’ve been blogging and I honestly couldn’t have expected it to come so soon. Everyone knows there’s amazing opportunities to come out of blogging but I did not think it could happen so quickly or even be one of the lucky few to get them. I truly believe that when you genuinely love what you’re creating and are consistent at posting, opportunities will come.
7. What would your advice be to someone who wants to begin blogging?

There is so much advice I can give, I feel like that can be a separate Q&A in itself! I think the most important advice would be to love what you’re writing/creating. A lot of people think about how easy it is to start a blog and get a bunch of free stuff and invitations but in reality, it’s a lot of hard work. From social media management, writing articles to taking photos, you can’t go into thinking you’ll be the next big blogger if you’re not passionate about what you’re doing. So in short, LOVE WHAT YOU’RE DOING.

8. What are some of your favourite bloggers today?

My favourite bloggers have constantly changed as my style has evolved throughout the years. Currently, my favourites are: Julia Engel (Gal Meets Glam), Jenny Cipoletti (Margo and Me), Levi Nguyen (TLNIQUE) and Olivia Purvis (What Olivia Did).

9. How long have you been blogging for?

I’ve been blogging since July 2015 but it feels like much longer!

10. What other types of challenges do you face?

Staying active on all social media platforms is a huge challenge and I think a lot of other people struggle with it. At times I can be killing it and posting on Twitter and Instagram but other times it’s difficult to tweet even once (and if you follow my Twitter, you’d know how much I love using it!)
