Men’s Style Guide | Fashion Resolutions for the New Year

The New Year is now well underway and many of you (myself included) have likely already broken the midnight resolutions you had made at the end of 2016. While some resolutions such as quitting smoking, eating healthy or working out more are difficult to stay committed to, there are also a lot of easier resolutions that can be made. I’ve compiled a short list of some different fashion and clothing resolutions that are both enjoyable and achievable.

Bring more colours into your wardrobe

While there are many practical reasons for filling your wardrobe with a collection of white, black, and grey clothes, the pragmatism of this monochrome palette does begin to grow a little stale. With this in mind, make 2017 the year of colour and vibrancy. This doesn’t necessarily mean you have to throw out any non-colourful item in your closet, instead try to introduce at least one colour piece to every outfit you put together. If this new splash of colour is to your liking, then continue forward with it and start experimenting with more colours and new combinations.

Lead don’t follow

Undoubtedly, fashion is all about trends. But all too often people get so caught up in trends that they end up deciding how to dress based purely off of how others dress. Let 2017 be the year that you take control of your own fashion destiny. This concept can manifest in any number of ways, and certainly does not have to mean starting your own trends or dressing outlandishly. Instead, let it be an opportunity to just stay true to yourself and dress in a way that make you feel comfortable and happy instead of the way that others tell you to dress.

Leave the man-bun in 2016

While this somewhat overlaps with my previous resolution of not following trends I believe it’s important enough to deserve its own point. The man-bun had a good run, and for a lot of guys it looks great. But that time has come to give it a rest and move on from the man bun. More likely than not, a new fad for men’s hair will come to prevalence in 2017 and that is what it is, but it is certainly time to try something new this New Year.
