“Last night was a celebration of womanhood of all shapes, sizes and colour that has never been seen before on the runway. From gorgeous Savage x Fenty lingerie to stunning makeup in every shade, everyone deserves to feel represented and beautiful.” – Fenty Beauty via Instagram

GOOSEBUMPS.

Is there anything her highness, Queen Rihanna can’t do? Has there ever been a time where she hasn’t delivered in a monumental way? It’s Rihanna’s world and we’re just living in it, folks.

In her world, ALL women are celebrated, honoured and represented. When New York Fashion Week and Rihanna meet, you can bet your top dollar that she is going to deliver a masterpiece to remember. Her Savage x Fenty show was just that and more.

Let’s face the facts about feminism, shall we? Feminism doesn’t mean we have to like every woman we cross paths with. It doesn’t claim or suggest that all is peaches and cream in a woman’s world 24/7/365 either. HOWEVER (and I say this with striking emphasis), it calls us to hoist one another up, meaning: when we, as women, are at our best, we should do anything to uplift and support a woman who either IS as well, or ISN’T at all. Rihanna is so protective of this tradition. She is on top of the world, yet in the most humble of ways. She has taken her power and dispersed it into all of us.

So how are these feminist codes represented through lingerie? It’s simple. The Savage x Fenty lingerie line is sexy, playful, inclusive and let me take it there, SAVAGE. With that being said, a savage is her own woman; a woman who is invincible, endearing and strong. Vogue related the theme of this show to “the Garden of Eden,” because it took us to a place of origin. There is nothing more empowering than a woman in her purest and truest form.

Time and time again, I have owed my love, comfort and confidence of self to her. This fashion show was a demonstration of how proud women should be of themselves, whoever they are. Rihanna told Elle, “I wanted to include every woman. I wanted every woman on stage with different energies, different races, body types, different stages in their womanhood, culture. I wanted women to feel celebrated and that we started this sh*t. We own this. This is our land because really, it is. Women are running the world right now and it’s too bad for men.”

After the show, Rihanna told Vogue: “I think it’s a shame women have to feel insecure or self-conscious about how their bodies look. They’ve been taught by society that only one thing works.” RiRi has always gone against the status quo but has been doing so now more than ever. She is fighting for us…ALL of us.

Whether Fenty Beauty is releasing 40 different shades of foundation or Savage x Fenty comes in an inclusive size range, her competition, if there even is any, should be taking notes. Rihanna doesn’t just set the bar; she IS the bar.
