“Josephine, or Jo March, is a creative, caring, ambitious, thoughtful, unconventional, imaginative and loving woman who finds creativity in every corner of her life and shares these creative ideas with her sisters.”

Vanessa Falsetti, creator and writer of Josephine, is all about creativity and simple living. She shares everything from recipes to reviews, and frequently features life with her husband and two adorable boys, making parenthood look so easy. We love her aesthetic, and her engaging writing keeps us inspired and coming back for more. For new moms out there, you will find her relatable and comforting, and for everyone else – well, she’s got some killer brunch recipes.

1. What or who inspired you to start blogging?

Writing has always been a huge part of my life; freelance writing, teaching English literature… and blogging kind of became an extension of this. While waiting for the birth of my first son, he was a week late, I decided to take the plunge and start a blog of my own. It’s been almost two years now and I can’t believe how much I’ve learned and grown from this experience. I’ve met so many amazing people along the way and I’ve truly grown as a person (stepping way out of my comfort zone and challenging myself creatively). Motherhood truly became a creative force for me and my boys have inspired me more than anything!

2. What do you blog about?

The blog had evolved a bit since it’s early days, but it was always been about food, motherhood, family life, individual style and design. I also love to feature fellow mompreneurs and small shops this is one of the ways that I’ve had the chance to meet so many amazing people!

3. What type of challenges do you face?

As a working mother of two, one of the hardest things about blogging is finding the time to make it all work. Coordinating naps or trying to work after the boys go to sleep is one of my biggest challenges. Also, like many of us, finding a balance between blogging, work and family life is always difficult as well.

4. How has your blog impact your life now?

My blog has become a huge part of my life and truly brings me a lot of joy as an ongoing creative outlet. I’ve had so many new opportunities that I would never have experienced before and it really is an extension of my life.

5. What inspires you throughout your blogging experience?

Meeting amazing people and the idea of following a dream that I’ve had since I was a little girl. Writing as been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember and the blog is kind of like an open journal that I can share with the world. I’ve truly found my voice through this experience. I’ve also had the opportunity to connect with women who’ve done something very similar (follow their creative dreams) and speaking with or meeting them always inspires me. Finally, the idea of showing my little ones that you can do whatever you set your mind to, I want my children to feel like they can follow their dreams so I want to set an example for them.

6. What is the most important feature of a successful blog?

I’m not sure if I can offer any kind of equation for success, but I can say that whenever I am myself and truly write blogs that reflect who that is the response from my readers is always positive. So I guess find your voice and use it to share your story with the world.

7. What would your advice be to someone who wants to begin blogging?

I don’t want to sound like a Nike ad, but honestly you have to ‘just do it!’ Take action and then go from there. It might not be perfect at first, but you will figure it all out and the lessons will happen along the way.

8. What are some of your favourite bloggers today?

Oh wow, that’s a hard one. I’ve had the chance to meet so many bloggers in the past couple of years, it might be hard to choose. I would have to say Ana of Bluebird Kisses is one of my favourite Canadian bloggers, her blogs always speak to me in a very real and authentic way.

9. How long have you been blogging for?

My two-year blog anniversary is coming up next month! I can’t believe it’s been two years already!

10. What do you hope to achieve in the next year?

There are so many things I would love to do next year, but one of the big ones for me is to develop an outreach component to my blog. I want to use my voice and platform for good as much as I can.
