What a fantastic time of year it is, leaves are changing, chunky knits are acceptable again and lipsticks are getting darker. Of course those bright summer shades will be in our hearts until next year but sometimes, nothing feels sexier then a deep merlot lip.

When choosing the perfect dark lip, it can be a little tricky, there are thousands of colours to swatch and truthfully, deep shades can be a little intimidating at times – especially if you’ve never tried them before! To help you get started, here are a few of our noteworthy dark lipsticks this fall!

Purples

This purple is a keepsake, Maybelline Colour Sensational The Loaded Bold Lipstick in Blackest Berry will accomplish all of your dark lip goals in one stroke. This deep berry is great for everyday wear and can be picked up for roughly $7.49(CAD) at any drugstore.

Kylie Cosmetics hasn’t disappointed yet, so it was no surprise they would create the perfect purple this fall. Love Bite is a gorgeous rich plum brown that looks fantastic on anyone who paints it on. You can snag Love Bite online as a lip kit, including the liquid lipstick as well as a liner for $29(USD).

MAC’s iconic Cremesheen Lipstick in Boyfriend Stealer, has to be one of my personal all time favourites. This deep plum is enough to get us through the cold weather – plus, how cute is the lip print it leaves behind on a wine glass – amirite?! You can find this one at any MAC Cosmetics location or online for $21(CAD).

Reds

Urban Decay nailed red when they created their Vice Lipstick, Bad Blood. Not too bright and not too dark, it can be born to any occasion, whether that be a day at the office or a night out with your girl friends. Bad Blood can be found for $21(CAD) at most Sephora locations.

I’ve recently fallen in love with NUDESTIX, a fairly new brand on the makeup market, and one that will likely stay around for a long time. The Royal Red Custom Tin is a long lasting, super soft, non-drying lip tin that holds a matte lipstick, lipliner, and cheek blush all in one. The tin also includes a mirror and pencil sharpener, selling at a fair price of $28(CAD) at Sephora.

Sephora Collection hit it big with their Rouge Matte Lipstick, Rude Boy. This deep shade of red is perfect for fall weekends spent strolling downtown. Sold at Sephora for $16(CAD), you will not regret picking this one up for your next date night.

Browns

Us ladies over at DS are loving Cover Girl’s Queen Collection Stay Luscious Lipstick in Grace. The deep brown has a waterproof formula that locks in colour and keeps lips extra moisturized during the entire wear. Grace can be pick up at any drugstore for roughly $8(CAD).

Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Lip Colour in Milky Way is a winner this fall. The medium-to-full coverage chocolatey lipstick provides the perfect texture and finish all while keeping the lips extremely hydrated – zero dryness, I swear! Selling at a pricy $29(CAD), we’re convinced that sometimes it’s okay to splurge on good quality, pretty things!

Our favourite brown this fall comes from none other then, Kylie Cosmetics. We searched high and low for the darkest matte brown, and we found it in True Brown K. The non-drying formula lasts all day and likely no touch-ups needed. True Brown K is available online only as a single for $17(USD) or as a lip kit at $29(USD)
