If you have a date or a special someone this upcoming Valentine’s Day, you probably have a lot on your mind. What to wear? Where to go? What gift to bring? And, most importantly, how to get super-soft, kiss ready lips when the weather is this bitter and cold?

It’s almost a shame that Valentine’s Day falls smack dab in the middle of winter; combating dry skin and lips can be an absolute nightmare! Luckily for you, the squad here at Designer Swap has just the thing to help you fight off dry, chapped lips, and achieve the perfect lip. All in time for you to get up close and personal with your Valentine.

The best part? Everything is all natural, and involves products you probably have in your kitchen pantry. You won’t even have to leave the house! Don’t worry; you can thank us later.

Read on for a step-by-step guide to DIYs that will leave you ready to smooch.

sugarlipscrub

Sugar Lip Scrub

The first step in getting your lips ready for a goodnight kiss is to scrub away any of the dead, flakey and dry skin. Using some household ingredients, you can make your own lip scrub without breaking the bank.

In a small jar, combine:

  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp white sugar
  • 1 tsp honey
  • ½ tsp olive oil

After mixing ingredients until they form a paste (you can add more or less to get the consistency you like!), rub on your lips and wipe away after application. This recipe is the best because of the ingredients’ added benefits – white sugar draws moisture to your skin and brown sugar is full of vitamin B. Honey is a natural moisturizer that will absorb and retain moisture, while olive oil has regenerative properties that will help heal your skin! So, not only will it scrub away any dry bits, but it will keep your lips soft!

tenminutelipbalm

10 Minute Lip Balm

After you’ve scrubbed your lips, the next step will be to use a lip balm to bring back some moisture! This is a really easy DIY that involves only a few ingredients, though you may need to take a trip to your grocery store or health food store to get everything you need! But trust us, it’s so worth it!

For this DIY, you’ll need:

  • 3 tbsp beeswax pellets
  • 2 tbsp shea butter
  • 4 tbsp coconut oil
  • 10 to 20 drops of essential oil

Melt the beeswax pellets, shea butter, and coconut oil in a microwave safe bowl in 30 second increments. Once, soft, add the essential oil to the mixture. While the liquid is still warm, pour into little pots or tubes and let them cool! Essential oils add extra health benefits, while the shea butter and coconut oil keep your lips soft!

berrylipstain

Berry Lip Stain

Lastly, you’re going to need a lip stain that will stay on during the smooching! This easy recipe allows you to make your own berry tinted balm that will stay on your lips and keep you looking ready for action.

You’ll need:

  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 to 2 tbsp shea butter
  • 1 raspberry for a soft pink colour
  • 3 blackberries for berry colour
  • 3 pomegranate seeds for a red colour

Melt the coconut oil and shea butter in the microwave for thirty seconds and stir to combine. With a spoon, mash your choice of berry through a sieve, disposing of any seeds (especially if you are using raspberries!). When the liquid is clear of seeds, add it to the coconut oil and shea butter mixture. Let cool and apply to your lips for a delicious tasting, soft flush of colour!

Now you’re ready for that Valentine’s Day kiss! Try out one of these DIYs and let us know how they worked out! We hope your Valentine’s Day is fabulous!
