Men’s Style Guide | Jackets for Men’s Winter Style

Winter is fast approaching and the winter fashion has finally come back! I walk to work almost every morning and my priority is to find a decent coat that will keep me warm. However, no matter how cold it is, I want to pick a winter coat that is not only warm but fashionable. With this challenge, I looked up some of this year’s favourite jackets and here is some insight on what I found and liked:

Pea Coats

This was one of my top picks as it comfortable and reasonably priced ranging from $60-$150. If you were to choose to wear this coat, it would be more suited for a cold day where you are going from point A to point B. I have seen people wear these jackets on the way to work with their suits but then also on a casual night out. My favourite pea coat that is a bit different from the norm is the match men’s wool winter fleece lined pea coat as it has a hood for the windy/snowy days. You can find these winter coats at stores such as Harry Rosen, Zara or designer consignment stores in Toronto.

The Parka

In the past, this was considered more of a weekend jacket or a jacket you would wear strictly for outdoor adventure related purposes. However, fashion editors have slowly created a classic mod style as the parka has been paired with suits, casual clothes and formal clothes in the latest fashion magazines. If you are looking for the best place to find a parka jacket, check out Nordstrom as soon as it opens in the Eaton Centre.
My parka picks would be the Fjallraven Polar Guide Waterproof hooded parka, Schott NYC Iceberg Waterproof Down Parka and the Toronto favourite, Canada Goose jacket (but slim fit). All of these are fairly expensive ranging from $500-$1000 but it is well worth it as it is a classic, great quality and will last for many winter seasons.

The Slim Puffer

A slim puffer is not a want; it is a need in every man’s closest. Whether you are running errands for the day, taking a walk outside or commuting to work its warmth and different texture is very practical for everyday use. The Patagonia Packable Down jacket is a classic or the BOSS Daniell trim fit down puffer jacket are my top picks when choosing a puffer jacket. It is cheaper than a parka as well with prices ranging fro $250-$400.

The Oversized Jacket

The oversized jacket I think is a great jacket for more of an older audience. This use to be the classic look so when I see this, a young graduate starting their career may not be able to pull this off NOW but it could be a great choice in the future! The extra length with the lapels will keep you warm day to day and great mostly for work or formal wear.

I have a love/hate relationship with winter. I love changing into my new wardrobe but I can’t stand the cold (contradictory I know). Looking through all these coats however, has made me very excited and I can’t wait to see the new jackets for the season.
