Tips & Trends | Transitioning Wardrobe: Winter to Spring

Share via:

Winter can feel so long that when spring comes, we think, what am I supposed to wear? It seems like after so many months of bundling up in sweaters and scarves, we forget that there are other seasons to look forward to. When the warmer weather finally arrives, our minds become blank and by force of habit, we automatically reach for dark colours or our favourite oversized turtle neck that we’ve probably been over wearing for the past 6 months. It’s hard to transition from our winter to spring fashion! With our hopes extremely high, we sit and patiently wait for warmer weather to arrive, but this time we’ve been waiting so long that we’ll be prepared to step out in that fresh spring air looking absolutely fabulous.

Replace Dark Colours

For most people, its much more comfortable to wear dark shades in the winter. It seems more fitting when the sky is grey and the air is harsh. Sure, there are a few moments after a snow fall when the streets look so glamorous, sparkling white like a field of crystals – but then the beauty fades and it starts to melt. Once all that mess has been washed away, spring arrives. This season, don’t be afraid to trade your black for whites and your dark grey for light – some people say that wearing light colours can increases endorphins, which will actually make us happier!

Play Up Colour Trends

For those of you who don’t know what Pantone is; they are the authority on colour, provider of colour systems and leading technology for accurate communication of colour. So basically, every year, they decide which colours will be on trend and the chosen colours for 2016 are absolutely stunning. They’ve decided on Rose Quartz, a warm rose shade and Serenity Blue, a cool tranquil tone – combining the two to demonstrate a soothing balance between order and peace. This spring, invest in a statement piece in either colour to add to your wardrobe – believe us, you wont be disappointed. With no surprise, both Rose Quartz and Serenity Blue look down right gorgeous on anyone. Whether or not you’re a blue or pink girl at heart, this season, Pantone nailed trend colours for all of us.

Winter Classics

Spring is always a fun time for women to get creative with our style; we can take our favourite winter pieces and transition them into our upcoming wardrobe. A big fuzzy cardigan may have been our go-to over the winter, but don’t tuck it away just yet! Throw it over a detailed blouse with a skirt or a pair of leather shorts as it will keep you warm and look so on trend. Same goes for make up – a deep dusty rose lipstick doesn’t have to be tossed to the back of our make up drawers just yet; wear it with a natural eye and it’ll look fantastic on a night out!

Change the Way You Layer

To keep us warm in the winter, we put on as many layers as possible and recently, its become a trend. Wearing a long shirt under a short one with a denim jacket on top of that, plus as many other layers as possible… looks good right? Layering makes it appear that we’ve put so much thought and detail into that outfit, when really we’re just trying to stay warm. When spring comes and the air is a little brisk, do the same thing; show some leg in your favourite pair of shorts, with a cute tee and a cool, detailed jacket on top. Adding a belt is a great way to create the effect of layers without actually adding extra heat. Depending on the weather, go for booties or a pair of sandals and it’ll be a perfect look for a day or night out!
